Online Education
vs Campus Education
Until recently, online education was something people would
laugh at, dream about or frown at. No one would have even thought
about it seriously let alone taking it up. Times have however,
changed now. Online education or E-learning is not only being widely
used but is also considered a wise option for gaining education.
Online education provides flexibility of timings and
convenience. It allows you to study from the comforts of your
home without having to travel to classrooms daily. However, online
education requires as much amount of discipline and hard work as is
required when studying in a college.
Why take up
online education?
If you are a working professional and have no time for
studying in a conventional college set-up, online education can
prove to be a great alternative. Online education does not require
you to quit your job or attend classes at a fixed time. No longer is
a person required to bother about distances, job, family obligations
or lack of time. You can choose your timings depending upon your
convenience and can as well choose your place of study. A wide
variety of courses are being offered in diverse fields such as
medicine, engineering, history, arts, management, finance and
academics. Most of the online universities offer courses as an
online college degree program leading to a Bachelors or an MBA
degree. Many short term diploma courses and certification programs
are also available. Researches show that a well-structured program
from an accredited online university is as good as in any
conventional college or university. Degrees or Diplomas, from
accredited online universities are recognized by almost all
organizations and are considered at par with regular college
degrees/diplomas.
How is online
education carried out?
The growth of Internet has promoted e-learning more than
ever. Earlier, distance learning (also known as correspondence
education) was carried out by course material being posted or
conducting part-time classes or with the help of electronic media
like television, telephone, video tapes, audio tapes etc. But the
growth of Internet completely revolutionized the face of distance
education. Now students are sent material by e-mails, fax,
CDs/floppy disks etc. The instructors guide through online
conversations, online chatting and voice mails. The instructors are
present online to clarify the doubts of the students. Students
receive regular assignments and a constant evaluation of their work,
just like it is done in a traditional college set-up. Students are
also made to read other students work and they constantly interact
with each other either through online chat or mails.
Internet provides access to a vast resource of information
on the World Wide Web. This enables the students to know a lot more
beyond the usual course material. Modern techniques and advancement
in computing has enabled the students experience education even in
the absence of class-rooms.
